Here is a video fellow instructor Luke O’Neil put together from our staff training May 18th-25th, 2010.
It took place in the Wine Spire Range near Mt Silver Star and Burgundy Spire in the Sawtooth Wilderness near Mazama Washington. We practiced and demonstrated our management skills for snow travel, rope team travel, fix lines, anchor set up with both rock and snow protection and had a blast. This following entry is from a trip Natalie and I did from May 1st to May 14th 2010. Please visit my flickr account for more photos that i hope to put on here at some point. So after spending a few weeks working for Natalie’s parents at Northern Edge Algonquin in South River Ontario in April, helping getting them set up for their summer season we were off. Our first night camping at Agawa Bay on Lake Superior.
Finally got out to this Amazing 22 metre tower in the canyon country of Dorion. It was a beautiful day and it felt so nice to be outside among these amazing pillars of basalt. There was nine of us and the climb we did was an easy 5.6 grade, route called Canine… A most enjoyable relaxed climb. We took turns climbing the tower and taking pictures. From the top of the tower you can see the entire length of Black Bay on Lake Superior along with the vast canyons created during glacial flood events about 9,500 years ago, pretty awesome perspective!
