Throughout the spring, parts of summer and fall I was fortunate enough to live and work at a fantastic place, Northern Edge Algonquin on the shorelines of Kawawaymog Lake just outside of South River, Ontario. Designed and created through dreams of the owners Todd and Martha Lucier, this brilliant space is a real blessing to the world. The Lucier family has been so generous as to share it by running a vas array of different programs from shamanism, creative arts, and wilderness retreats to canoe & kayak trips into Algonquin Park & Georgian Bay (see the Northern Edge website for further details by clicking here).
I have been involved in many different programs and projects here at the edge and I am still processing and will continue to process all the great things I’ve learned.
This September I was involved with a few school group programs during the peak of the fall colours. Growing up doing canoe trips or camping with my family I had fond memories of the special feeling you get when you are out in the wilderness this time of year.
It was fantastic to re-connect to this place after many years but in a different context, taking students outside and teaching them about all the little things in nature that we all often take for granted.
